Farrell McElwee Solicitors is one of the South East’s fastest growing solicitors, with clients in Ireland and the U.K. The practice was established in 2007 by the principal of the firm, Joseph Farrell, a Carlow native. Denise Whelan, legal executive has worked with Joseph since the inception of the practice. The business quickly expanded with solicitor Simon McElwee joining in 2009 and legal secretary Janice Murphy joining in 2010. As of 2014, with our services in constant demand, two new trainees, Simon Attride and Jill Griffin have joined our team.

Joseph Farrell, Principal

A native of Crettyard and Graiguecullen, Joseph graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and European Studies from the University of Limerick in 1999. He subsequently obtained his LLM at Trinity College Dublin in 2000 and qualified as a solicitor in 2003. Following a short period working in a commercial firm in Australia, he returned to Ireland in 2007 and commenced the practice of Farrell McElwee Solicitors. Joseph has experience particularly in the areas of conveyancing, criminal law and District Court family law.

Simon McElwee, Solicitor

Simon was educated in Clongowes Wood College and graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2005 with an LLB. He trained in the boutique firm of O’Gradys Solicitors where he qualified as a solicitor in 2008 before moving to Beauchamps Solicitors. In September 2009 he joined the litigation department of Farrell McElwee Solicitors. Simon has successfully concluded many complex High Court medical negligence and personal injury actions. He has subsequently developed a practice in Circuit Court and High Court family law as well as employment law.

Niamh Bolger, Solicitor

A native of Graiguenamanagh, Co Kilkenny, Niamh graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from University College Dublin. She qualified as a solicitor in 2005 and practised for over 5 years with Patrick Duffy Solicitors in Carrick-on-Shannon. Niamh then moved to Dublin and practised in Bank of Ireland for over 2 years. In August 2014 Niamh joined the firm of Farrell McElwee Solicitors (formerly Joseph P. Farrell Solicitors) where she specialises in the areas of Conveyancing and Probate Law.

A native of County Carlow, Denise has worked in law for over 10 years. Denise graduated with a Diploma in Law in Institution of Technology Carlow and subsequently obtained membership with the IILEX. Denise has experience particularly in the areas of Conveyancing, Criminal matters, Wills and Family Law.

Simon Attride, Trainee

Simon Attride is a native of Killeshin in County Laois. Simon was educated in Knockbeg College Carlow. He graduated with honours from NUI Galway in 2011 after completing a B.A. and an LLB. He spent time gaining valuable experience in all areas of general practice as a legal executive in a Dublin practice after graduating. He joined Farrell McElwee Solicitors as a trainee in May 2014. Simon has a keen interest in all aspects of criminal law as well as licensing matters and wills.

Jill Griffin, Trainee

Originally from Offaly, Jill graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a First Class Honours degree in Law and German (LLB Ling. Germ.) in 2012. She spent a year at Humboldt University Berlin where she studied courses in German, European and international law. Jill presented a paper at the Trinity College Law School Colloquium in 2012. Jill spent a year working in the German department of a large multinational company and in March 2014, she joined Farrell McElwee Solicitors as a trainee. Her areas of interest are Civil Litigation, Criminal Law, Family Law and Wills.
